"A Kentucky Christmas" - 2006

This year GOSPELVISION Ministries' Christmas Banquet was held at The Hazard Community and Technical College on the Lees College Campus in Jackson, Kentucky.

On the morning of the banquet there were people showing up at the door at 8:00 am then the crowd started growing at noon. When the doors were opened at 2:00 pm the parking lot was full of people.

There were approximately 500 in attendance with over 50 volunteers serving the tables and caring out the program. Another 25 volunteers had already worked for the past two months collecting, picking up and packaging food, toys and gift items for the program.

There was a turkey dinner, with dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, corn bread and lots of cake.

Jeremy and Amy Tye, youth leaders at Love and Faith Christian Center in Cincinnati, came down to help with the program. The story of Jesus birth was conveyed through song and short stories.

Elder Erv and Joetta Turner of Love and Faith Christian Center made the trip to attend this years program. Bro. Erv said he appreciated the program very much since he grew up in Jackson.

Jack Strong, a local musician in Jackson played his guitar and Pastor Mike Tabor with The Happy Church played keyboard during the dinner.

Applications were taken for 345 families, which included 574 adults and 506 children for a total of 1,080 people served through the program. (This number includes families that were unable to attend the banquet, but we supplied gifts and groceries which were distributed through two local churches.)

When asked why he was doing this program, Rev. Thomas Little, Jr. President and Founder of GOSPELVISION Ministries, simply said, "We are celebrating the birth of Jesus. And a great way to do that is to be a servant especially during the Christmas Season. Christmas time is a special time of the year but it also puts a lot of stress on families especially the low income sector."

Traditionally, for many years GOSPELVISION Ministries has organized Christmas Banquets along with Food and Toys distributions in eastern Kentucky serving thousands of families.
